Top MLB Plays 8/21 | My name ain't baby. It's Nathan. Mr Eovaldi if you're nasty.

Thanks to @ZeroInDenver for filling in this week! We will resume freeroll contests when @GP_Landry is back from his well deserved vacation.

What a slate we have today! In fact, @glandry called me at 3AM asking if he could write the newsletter from his vacation in an undisclosed location. "Don't forget to tell them about NASTY NATE", he said. "Oh, and THE GREAT HUNTER RENFROE is in Coors! Don't forget to put him on the #HomeRunWatchlist," he reminded me.

Actually, that never happened. He's probably not even reading this. I know for a fact that he didn't read the weekend newsletters.

Nonetheless, we have a full 15-game slate, so we better do our homework!

Pitching: Spending Up

Patrick Corbin, ARI (vs. LAA) (DK: $11.9K, FD: $10.8K)

Like most nights, I really don't think you need to spend up for pitching, especially on DraftKings. When building lineups most nights, I'm looking for someone who I think can get me 15-20 and let my bats do the rest.

Looking at the options, I don't hate Snell, but I don't think they'll let him pitch past 5 innings. Same issue with Tanaka.

Forget about Berrios. I'd rather be peppered with "you should have done your homework on Berrios" by not recommending him and he does well than if I recommend him and he doesn't.

So that leaves me with Corbin. He's the most expensive, so I'm hoping that keeps his ownership down, especially in GPPs. Also, Chase Field hasn't been the same since they added the humidor. But like I said, I don't think you need to spend up for a pitcher today, but if I were to, I'll be leaning Corbin.

Pitching: Value

NASTY NATE, BOS (vs CLE) (DK: $8K, FD: $7.8K)

First of all, I don't love Nasty Nate nearly as much as you all expect that I should today. He has a tough matchup. On the plus side, he has pitched well at home and some Cleveland bats like Jose Ramirez have gone cold over the past couple of weeks. He's priced right considering the matchup, so I'll for sure have some healthy shares.

Pitching: Punt

Sam Gaviglio, TOR (vs BAL) (DK: $6.8K, FD: $7.1K)

I don't like his price on FanDuel, but I think he's priced fair on DraftKings if you're looking to punt on SP2. He gets a good home matchup against a Baltimore team that has a 23.8% K rate vs RHP. The downside is that Baltimore has a .348 wOBA and .202 ISO over the past 2 weeks vs. RHP.

#HomeRunWatchList 💥

If you’re new to the article, this is (@glandry's) section where he picks an outfielder, corner infielder, and middle infielder or catcher to hit a long ball today. Happy to play along on this. Make sure you are utilizing the LineStar Daily Matchup Tool when looking for hitters with a lot of home run potential.

THE GREAT HUNTER RENFROE, SD: OF (DK: $5.43K, FD: $3.7K)

Wait a minute, you can't put a Coors player in the #HomeRunWatchList? But indeed I can. That's @glandry's rule, not mine. Keep in mind, he's listed as "questionable" plus there are weather concerns at Coors tonight with some storms that should be popping up, but even if he doesn't hit the lineup, I'll still play him for the pinch-hit potential.

Jesus Aguilar, MIL: 1B (DK: $5.2K, FD: $3.9K)

Whenever I find a player that has a Statcast hard hit percentage over 50 and average distance over 250 for the past 2 weeks, I find a way to get them into some of my lineups.

Javier Baez, CHC: 2B/SS (DK: $4.7K, FD: $3.7K)

Probably my favorite middle infielder on the slate. Gets a great matchup in a great park.

Value Bats

Similar to the home run watch list, in this section, I’ll provide an outfielder, corner infielder, and middle infielder or catcher who are priced in the value tier. If I can find someone under priced on both sites, I’ll highlight them. But in some cases, it could be site specific.

Ji-Man Choi: 1B (DK: $3.8K, FD: $2.4K)

Dude hitting the ball hard and facing a terrible team? Sign me up!

Neil Walker, NYY: OF/1B/2B ($3.6K, FD: $2.4K)

I, George Foreman, guarantee that he will go 1-4 with a HR or 0-5 with 3 K's.

Nikko Goodrum, DET: 2B (DK: $4K, FD: $3.2K)

Someone in chat last week said that Kyle Hendricks is DFS trash. If that's true, then I want someone facing Hendricks today. I like his price more on FanDuel, but I don't hate him on DK, especially if you want to get weird and stack Tigers. In that case, he rounds out a 1-4 Tigers stack quite nicely.

Stacks on Stacks

If you're playing GPPs, you're going to want to stack. If a team you stacked has a good night, you stand a good chance of your lineups placing high. There are a lot of teams that make for good stacks tonight and I expect Coors, Brewers, and probably Boston to be popular, so there's no need for me to mention them here. Instead, here are a few stacks that I'll have decent shares of tonight.

Chicago Cubs (@ DET )

@Awilso88 said something along the lines of "stack against the Tigers and you'll probably come out ahead most nights." So that's what I'm going with. The Cubs have an implied total of 5.3 runs at this point and face Zimmerman, who has elevated hard hit and exit velocity rates over the past 2 weeks.

Washington Nationals (vs. PHI)

If you like chasing game logs, Vincent Velasquez hasn't been very good over his last couple of starts. I also think that because of the sadness Washington stacks have brought over the past week, their ownership should be down. On top of that, there are some weather concerns with Washington with heavy rain expected tonight. Keep any eye on chat before lock if you're going to play anyone from this game.

Baltimore Orioles (vs. TOR ) *Biscuit Stack*

Tonight, you can choose your own adventure. Do you want to be on the Gaviglio side and think that Baltimore plays like the terrible team they are, or do you think Baltimore, who has a .202 ISO versus RHP over the past 2 weeks, can rake against Sam Gaviglio and a sub-par Toronto bullpen?

The Bullpen Report

Bullpen numbers over the past 2 weeks are listed below. Green is good, red is not good. So for example, Toronto is facing a no bueno bullpen from Baltimore tonight.

Good luck today! Tag me in the LineStar Chat @ZeroInDenver if you have any questions or feedback on the daily newsletters and hit me up on Twitter (@ZeroInDenver).
