Top MLB Plays 4/5 | Thursday's Means Mini Slates.

Tastefully curated M-F by LineStar fantasy experts.

Thursday marks one week since the MLB season has kicked off and so far the MVP has been Mother Nature. Basically the #1 strategy so far for DFS is to pick players in California or a dome because anybody through the Midwest or out East is basically a risk for a DNP – blizzard. The good news is that the weather seems to be turning a bit and today we'll enjoy a tradition unlike any other – putting together a great lineup.

David Price ready to roll once again.

What we've learned through the first week of the MLB season is that no pitcher is safe. Clayton Kershaw is 0-2, Max Scherzer gave up three runs in the first to the Braves yesterday...it's anarchy. Let's walk the fine line and see our best pitching options for today.

Power Pitching Targets:

  1. David Price ($ 12,100 DK, $ 9,400 FD) A crazy price discrepancy on DraftKings where the next highest priced pitcher is Paxton at $9,600. Even so, the Boston left-hander may be worth the cost today. Price went 7 scoreless IP in his first start of the season, giving up just 4H and striking out 5. He'll be up against the same Rays team who he faced in that game and who also have a career .136 average against Price. It's also the Fenway home opener.

  2. Kyle Gibson ($ 8,700 DK, $ 6,900FD) There's really good value in Gibson today in the Twins home opener. He had a great start to the season throwing six shutout innings against the Orioles. The Mariners might be a tough draw as they have the #2 batting average in all of baseball, but Gibson did go 2-0 against them in 2017.

Value Pitchers:

  1. Caleb Smith ($ 7,600 DK, $ 6,000 FD) Getting a win might be tough as the 2-4 Marlins go on the road for the first time this season but Smith should at least compile some solid stats. The left hander had a great start to the season allowing just 4H while striking out 8 Cubs batters. His ERA is just 1.69 after that game and he has the advantage of just one Phillies player ever having an AB against him.

  2. Nick Pivetta ($ 7,300 DK, $ 6,700 FD) Pivetta is the play today up against a Marlins team that has only 2HR on the season. The right-hander didn't have the best outing to start the year, surrendering 3ER in just 4.0 IP but at the very least he should be rested after throwing only 73 pitches.

Much like Tiger Woods looks to get started stacking his wardrobe with another green jacket today, we'll try to find some optimum lineups that will take advantage of pitchers in an unplayable lie.

  • DET – Cabrera / Martinez / Candelario – Chicago's Shields was up and down in his 1 st start. Sox fans know there's mostly 'downs' coming.

  • TEX – Gallo / Andrus / Choo – Oakland's Mengden has a 7.94 ERA after his first start of the year.

  • OAK– Davis / Chapman / Lowrie – A's have familiarity with Texas' Perez (114 PA) and success (.314).

  • MIN– Dozier / Mauer / Escobar – Twins have a top 10 scoring offense in baseball and are in their home
