Top MLB Plays 4/4 | Stepping Your Game π
Tastefully curated M-F by LineStar fantasy experts.
Here's the type of insight you can get from our newsletter. Oakland's Chad Pinder came in to yesterday's game 0-2 having only played in one game all year. We told you to swipe right on Pinder and he responded with a 2-4 day which included a BB and his first HR of the season. This was all for the 'league minimum' $2,000 on DraftKings. Let's try and dig up another gem here on early morning, April four (U2 reference)
TOP MLB Plays Today 4/4/18 π
There's an early slate of games today which often favors the home team. βGetaway dayβ as they call it is especially exciting early in the season when the grind of travel hasn't gotten to the players yet. That being said, there are some good options from visiting pitchers today too.
Power Pitching Targets:
Noah Syndergaard ($ 11,600 DK, $ 10,800 FD)(Warning this game includes PPD and in-game Delay Risk)βThorβ being healthy is just good for baseball. After missing a majority of last season with a torn right lat, Syndergaard struck out 10 Cardinals batters in his return to the rotation on opening day. It will be interesting to see how his arm holds up in back-to-back starts but the Phillies have just a .151 combined average against Syndergaard and have struck out 26% of the time they've faced him.
Luis Severino ($ 11,300 DK, $ 10,600FD)Even with Dallas Keuchel and Corey Kluber also taking the mound today, Severino is the play. He's up against the Rays who have hit only .146 against the Yankees RH in their career. Severino was 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA against Tampa Bay last season and he pitched 5-2/3 of scoreless ball on opening day.
Value Pitchers:
Patrick Corbin ($ 7,300 DK, $ 7,500 FD)A very risky play today considering Corbin was 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA against the Dodgers last season but LA's bats were nonexistent in a 4-hit, 1-6 loss to the Diamondbacks yesterday. Corbin was solid on Opening Day, scoring the win after allowing just 2 ER to a solid Rockies offense β although both runs came on solo HR.
Aaron Nola ($ 8,500 DK, $ 8,500 FD) - (Warning this game includes PPD and in-game Delay Risk)Nola had a strong outing to begin the year, allowing 0 runs into the 6th inning against the Braves. One of the reasons Nola is a positive play today is because he's fresh after curiously being pulled after throwing only 68 pitches the last time out. Mets bats were held relatively quiet yesterday posting just two runs β although it was two more than the Phillies scored. This line has also dropped from -150 to -135 which means Philadelphia might be a good bet today.
#HomeRunWatchlist π₯
>>> HRW brought to you by Daily Matchup Tool <<<Bryce Harper, Adam Jones, and Chad Pinder came through on the #HomeRunWatchlist yesterday. It would have been nice to have given you Didi Gregorious (2HR, 8RBI) or called Shohei Ohtani's 1st MLB HR but hey β we don't have the almanac from Back to the Future over here. Today's plays include:
Victor Martinez β The Tigers DH is hitting just .214 on the year and has yet to hit a HR. He may be starting to get hot however with 3H in his last 6AB. Detroit is up against Danny Duffy today, the Royals pitcher who served up 3HR to the White Sox his last start. Also, V-Mart is hitting .385 with 3HR against Duffy in his career.
Paul Goldschmidt β He seems to be a daily fixture on this newsletter but today's the day he rewards our consistency...maybe. Goldschmidt is hitting .300 against Dodgers starter Alex Wood in his career, but has 3HR in 20 AB.
Justin Upton β A tough matchup against Corey Kluber today, but Upton is warming up with a 2 hit game yesterday that included his first dinger of the season. Also, Upton has 3 HR in 16 career AB against Kluber so he sees him well.
Brandon Guyer β As we get in to the reach section of the watch list, Cleveland's OF Brandon Guyer is just 1-5 on the season. That one hit was a double though. He has also absolutely owned today's Angels starter Tyler Skaggs, going 4-5 with 2 HR. There's value for him at $2,700 on DK.
Colby Rasmus β Another bargain bin player, Rasmus is up against Dallas Keuchel today. That would be intimidating if the Baltimore DH wasn't 3-6 with 2 HR against Keuchel in his career. What a great time for the .073 hitter Rasmus to get his second hit of the season?
Stacks on Stacks π₯
There's some good pitchers taking the hill today so offense may be at a premium. Then again if runs are hard to come by, it could make today's stacks even more important.
CLE β Encarnacion / Alonso / Chisenhall β Team has a combined .404 average against Skaggs.
KC β Moustakas / Escobar / Gordon β Royals hitting .361 vs Norris
DET β Cabrera / Martinez / Castellanos β KC's Duffy had a problem with the long ball against Chicago.
NYYβ Gregorius / Stanton / Judge β Yankees put up 11 runs in their first home game of the season yesterday.
