Here's what you missed while putting down the Baseball Almanac for the Farmer's Almanac.
Major League Baseball is going to break records this year. Unfortunately for DFS players it's a record that could cost us money. Through 19 days of the season there have been 24 games postponed. That's just 2 short of the record before May 1st and we've got two weeks left of games in April. This weather has been so crazy that's it's even canceling games in domes β as evidenced by last night's Royals / Blue Jays game being postponed from the Rogers Centre. They joined the Cardinals / Cubs game which was rescheduled for a double header in July and the Patriot's Day matchup between Boston and Baltimore which was also pushed back. When you were a kid, you hoped for snow days only to despise them when you had to make up those days in June. Baseball could be the opposite. We're mad about games being canceled in April, but that just means a ton of double (and maybe even triple) headers in June and July. If worst comes to worse, we'll just take Padres for the rest of the month since it's 72 degrees there every single day of the year. Good news is Tribe/Twins play in PR today, otherwise they too might be PPD today π
It was a windy night and a relatively 'no-name' pitching slate last evening and there were some high scores to back up that fact. We relied on value in the pitching department last night and Blake Snell (1 ER, 9 SO) came up big as our pitcher of the night. Jaime Garcia couldn't even take the mound as a game in a dome was canceled while Luis Castillo picked up a W and Brent Suter allowed just 3ER. Tonight's pitching slate is headlined by a couple marquee matchups, namely David Price vs Shohei Ohtani and Jonny Cueto vs Patrick Corbin. Do we go top heavy with these big name games or find value in a few pitchers coming in on what seems like 15 days rest because of the weather?
Power Pitching Targets βΎοΈ
Patrick Corbin ($ 9,800 DK, $ 9,500 FD)Ohtani and Price are both up against good offenses in their opposition on Tuesday so Corbin becomes the top target β and with value. Corbin started against the Giants the last time out and gave up just 2 hits through 5 IP. He did run into trouble in the 6th inning of that game but still finished with 9 K's. The game prior Corbin was sharp against the Dodgers with 7.1 IP of 1 hit ball that included 12 K's. The Giants have some big name batters, but are still the second worst scoring team in the league (3.07 runs/game). SF has scored just 1 run in two of the last three.
Alex Wood ($ 8,200 DK, $ 8,400 FD)A lot of DFS players will shy away from Wood today considering he gave up 7ER in just 3.2 IP in his last outing against Oakland. You have to give the guy some credit though, he got into a bad batch of Hot Pockets or something and was feeling the effects of food poisoning in that start. Wood should be much better Tuesday considering the Dodgers are -190 betting favorites. The left hander is pitching at Petco which is the #2 pitcher-friendly park in baseball and with a wind blowing in at 8 MPH. The Padres also have a 23.2% K rate against southpaws.
Value Pitchers
Yonny Chirinos ($ 4,700 DK, $ 6,000 FD)There's some crazy value in Chirinos considering he's the lowest priced pitcher on DraftKings today. This is a guy facing Texas which is the 5th lowest scoring team in the MLB with a cumulative team average of .226. The Rangers also have a 30.3% K rate vs RH pitchers. Tampa Bay's right hander is making his third start of the season (along with one relief appearance) but hasn't allowed a single ER in 14.1 IP. He threw just 75 pitches in his last start but should be ready for a longer outing on Tuesday.
Jake Odorizzi ($ 6,000 DK, $ 7,600 FD)At the very least Odorizzi should be rested as he hasn't started in a week thanks to the wonderful Minnesota Spring. The Twins right hander had a good outing his last start, holding Houston to just 1 ER over 6.0 IP. Odorizzi's pitched 6 innings of shut out ball to Baltimore in his first outing of the season and has a 2.20 ERA through three starts. It's going to be a pitcher-friendly night at Target Field with 38 degree game time temps and a wind blowing in from left at 7 MPH. Oddsmakers opened the O/U total at just 7 runs so they're expecting a low scoring affair as well.

Stacks on Stacks π₯
It's been hard finding stack options so far in 2018 basically because 3-4 games a night get postponed due to the weather. For the next week the #1 stack criteria might just be βgreen grass.β As the barometric pressure has evened out a bit (for a day) let's stack β which includes stacking our snow shovels up in the shed until next year because this stuff is stupid.
TB β Gomez / Ramos / Robertson β The Rays offense came alive last night with 8 runs and will be facing a pitcher on a 3-game losing streak.
WSH β Harper / Turner / Zimmerman β Huge wind and a Triple AAA call up for the Mets
CHIβ Schwarber / Baez / Bryant β Cubs offense chomping at the bit after multiple postponements.
PITβ Polanco / Marte / Bell β Bettis has been good but favorable hitting conditions in Pittsburgh tonight.
As expected, yesterday's only game where the wind was blowing in accounted for 13 runs which made the Grandal and Bellinger stacks very lucrative. Tonight has an anti-stack with a lot of potential as well.
There's a double header on today's slate, the Twins are playing their first game in what seems like a month, and the Yankees will try to reproduce last night's dozen runs. The Red Sox are introduced to Shohei-Mania and the Cubs just try to get a game in. It's an exciting Tuesday night in the MLB and at the very least you can say you were there when the 2018 season broke the all-time cancelled-games-before-May-1st record. I mean seriously, can we just get a full slate in for Tuesday? We want to focus on the radar gun, not the Doppler radar.
