Top MLB Plays 4/16 | Rainy Mondays ☔️

Tastefully curated M-F by LineStar fantasy experts.

What did you miss while stretching – you don't want to pull a hammy.

It's Boston Marathon day which would normally mean some early morning baseball to get you going on this Monday. Of course most of the Midwest and Northeast is blanketed by snow (in mid April) so that means a no-go for the Red Sox and Orioles. Six games were postponed yesterday thanks to the drunkenness of Punxsutawaney Phil and games in Chicago and Pittsburgh are iffy for tonight. We'll tread on as if all 10 games on the main slate are going to be played – which is probably as big of a jinx as putting your Winter coat and snow blower away for the season. Those tasks might have to wait until May just to be safe.

There's really no clear cut 'premier play' for tonight's slate. Jacob deGrom is up against the Nationals offense while Dallas Keuchel is in Seattle but hasn't pitched more than five innings in his last two starts. Those are your two biggest names for tonight's slate although Philadelphia's Aaron Nola and Seattle's James Paxton are ranked 2nd and 3rd behind deGrom (and ahead of Keuchel). It's looking like a night to load up on the bats and get out your saver's card on pitching to find some value. Hey, if Bartolo Colon can take a perfect game into the 8th last night then anything can happen.

Power Pitching Targets ⚾️

  1. Blake Snell ($ 7,800 DK, $ 7,100 FD)Snell has had two good outings this year to go with one really bad one. He didn't allow a single ER in 5.2 IP in the opener against Boston and is coming off a 1 hit, 10 SO performance at the White Sox. Yeah there's a 5ER, 2 HR allowed start against the Yankees sandwiched in there but we'll call that a hiccup. The left hander has a positive matchup against Texas tonight and the 3-12 Rays are actually favored at -165. The Trop is the #7 pitcher-friendly park in the league and Texas has a 21.6% K rate against southpaws. The Texas offense has scored 2 runs or less in 3 of their last 5.

  2. Jaime Garcia ($ 7,100 DK, $ 6,500FD)Garcia has served up a long ball in each of his two starts this year, but tonight he's up against Kansas City who has hit just 5 on the year – last in the MLB. Garcia allowed 3ER to the Rangers the last time out, but he had a solid season debut with 6 innings of 1 run ball against the White Sox. The left hander has struck out 12 in 11.1 IP and faces the Royals who have a 22.9% K rate against left handers.

Value Pitchers

Ivy League Grad seeks Surprise domination appearance.

  1. Brent Suter ($ 6,200 DK, $ 6,000 FD)One of the left handers biggest advantages tonight is that he's pitching at Miller Park where the roof can be closed. Almost every other outdoor stadium has a wind blowing out at least 12 MPH which means a great night for the long ball. Suter is also up against a Cincinnati offense that scored just 6 runs total in their three game set with the Cardinals this weekend. Opponents have a very weak exit velocity against Suter (81.1 MPH) and he's allowed just 1 HR in three starts this year.

  2. Luis Castillo ($ 7,300 DK, $ 7,000 FD)Stick with the safe haven of Miller Park for another value pitcher for Monday. Castillo has been getting lit up like a Christmas tree (fitting with all the snow on the ground) this year surrendering 13 ER in 16 IP. A meeting with the Brewers could be good for what ails him even though Milwaukee is a top 10 HR hitting team (18) while Castillo has served up 4 already. Regardless the Brewers have a 23.5% K rate against righties and are hitting just .210 in 28 AB against the Cincinnati pitcher.

Stacks on Stacks 🥞

Virtually every available player is a good stack option including Dorothy and Toto with all the windy conditions this evening. This is the type of night where a .174 #8 hitter will hit 3 of his 5 HR for the season. That can be frustrating, but also lucrative.

  • TB – Gomez / Duffy / Span – the wind could be blowing in at 30 MPH and it would still be a good bet to stack against Texas' Martin Perez and his 11.88 ERA. The Trop has a dome by the way.

  • SEA – Cruz / Segura / Cano – Keuchel threw 25.2 P/IP his last outing and could struggle again.

  • PHI– Hoskins / Hernandez / Franco – Gusts could reach 20 MPH out to left tonight and Teheran has a 7.07 ERA.

  • CHI– Schwarber / Heyward / Baez ☔️ – Plenty of experience against Wainwright (119 PA) and an offense riding high from Saturday's comeback.

Yesterday's PERFECT Baseball Lineup

Baseball is weird. Watch with all these games with the wind blowing out, the highest scoring affair will be the one at Petco with the wind gusting in hard from left field. If that's the case:

  • LAD – Grandal / Bellinger / Taylor – because....baseball.

It's set to be an interesting night with a lot of scoring potential. We'll check back tomorrow to discuss the 6 no-hitters that were inevitably thrown tonight.
