Top MLB DFS Plays 6/2 | Stacks on a Sunday

Written by @ZeroInDenver

Happy Sunday everyone. In case you took the day off yesterday, I (@ZeroInDenver) am filling in for Greg this weekend. Like I said yesterday, I don't spend very much time looking at numbers or stats. If you want that kind of info, listen to the weekend podcast where the boys have you covered. Instead, we're taking another ride on the game theory train today.

There's a nine game main slate on tap today. However, the KC/TEX and TOR/COL games are left off of the main slate on FanDuel.

There's a chance of rain in Pittsburgh, but everything else looks clear (remember that I'm writing this the night before). As always, keep an eye on chat for any updates.

Stay up to date on all weather conditions and confirmed lineups as soon as they are released over on the Daily Dashboard!

Pitchers to Consider

Lucas Giolito (DK: $11.1K, FD: $10.6K) | RHP | CLE @CWS

Nope. Not proud of it. I think he's too expensive. I'll have some exposure, but I'm definitely not all in on Giolito. I have him in about 20% of my lineups in my initial build and I can't imagine moving that far from him. All that said, I think Giolito is a solid cash play and a better cash play than Scherzer if you're looking in the top tier.

Julio Teheran (DK: $8.7K, FD: $8.6K) | RHP | ATL vs DET

More nope. It feels weird, but I had thoughts of stacking the Tigers before I had thoughts of playing Teheran. However, he's been fairly consistent, and lets face it, the Tigers aren't a great team. They strike out a lot. So if Teheran gives up a bomb or two, he can hopefully make it back in strikeouts.

Adam Wainwright (DK: $6.7K, FD: $7.5K) | RHP | STL vs CHC

A lot more nope. I have zero confidence in pitching at any level these days. I feel I have to take a chance, hope for the best, and have my bats carry me. Wainwright, to me, is as decent a choice as any if you're going to dumpster dive in the lowest tier. I try not to hold a grudge in DFS, but the Cubs have disappointed me enough times this year that I might as well pick a pitcher against them. What could go wrong?

Team Stacks to Target

Keep in mind, there’s no rule saying you *have* to roll out four and five man stacks. Sometimes mixing and matching two and three man stacks with some one-off hitters is the better route to take in order to give yourself more exposure to different offenses.

As always, Coors is the obvious choice. You don't need me to tell you to play Coors. Here are other stacks that I think are in good spots today:

Washington Nationals vs. Sonny Gray (RHP – Cincinnati Reds)

Sometimes the Nationals stacks disappoint, and sometimes they win GPPs. No idea what they'll do today, but I like their chances against Sonny Grey in Ohio Coors. Sonny Gray has been good for much of this season, which I'm hoping keeps Nationals ownership down. Like I mentioned yesterday, when looking for stacks, I like to focus on teams that have a higher probability of scoring lots of runs but with lower ownership. The Nats check those boxes for me today.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Jeff Samardzija (RHP - San Francisco Giants)

I never like playing Samardzija. He was also starting to get some "Hates" on the LineStar app early in the morning, so I think Baltimore makes for a solid stack today. On DraftKings, they're expensive, so I hope that keeps ownership low.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Zach Davies (RHP - Brewers)

I did an initial build and was getting a lot of Davies. After doing some back-checking, I don't have a lot of interest in Davies. His Statcast numbers are elevated and I think there's a decent probability he gets knocked around. Because of that, I'm stacking Pirates today.

One-Off Hitters

Here I’ll highlight players at [roughly] different price points (high, mid, low) that could be used as a ‘one-off’ piece in lineups -- or perhaps part of a two man mini-stack.

Renato Nunez (DK: $5.1K, FD: $3.6K) | 1B | vs. Jeff Samardzija (RHP)

Nunez has been raking. He's too expensive on DraftKings, but priced better for a one-off on FanDuel.

Austin Riley (DK: $4.3K, FD: $2.4K) | 3B | vs. Matt Boyd (RHP)

I don't care for stats, but I love Statcast numbers. Riley has great Statcast numbers over the past two weeks, which is why I love him as a one-off today.

Jason Heyward (DK: $3.8K, FD: $3K) | OF | vs. Adam Wainwright (RHP)

BvP call of the day. Heyward has also been hitting the ball hard over the past 2 weeks. Like I mentioned before, Cubs stacks have been disappointing lately, but I like Heyward as a one-off.

Best of luck today! Don't forget to give the "On Deck" podcast with Joe Pisapia & Chris Meaney a listen! You can find it linked at the top of the page.
